District Deputy’s Report
July - September 2017
Dear Brother Knights,

I would like to thank all of you for your prayers and support as I undergo
cancer surgery at the UCLA Medical Center.
The first surgery involving the rectum was successful and I am awaiting
to undergo the second surgery for the colon.
I am recovering from Colitis after the first surgery.
I ask you to keep my wife and I in your prayers for the second surgery
and a swift recovery.
    As
we started the 2017-2018 Columbian Year, the District that I represent has been
reorganized by the State Council.
Our District is now known as District #80.
The District is now comprised of four Councils: Council 5300 (Goleta),
Council 1684 (Santa Barbara), Council 13756 (Carpinteria) and Council 6012
(Ojai).   Recruitment,
retention of existing members and achieving Star Council are again the goals for
this Columbian Year.

Part of increasing membership is the service programs that each Council runs
during the Columbian Year.   As
the Supreme Council has stated, service programs should include activities that
are part of the Building the Domestic Church Initiative which was initiated last
year.  Activities are what draw
interested Catholic men into the Council.
Councils should reexamine every Columbian Year which programs are
successful and which are not.
These programs show to others how the Knights of Columbus Councils practice
their Catholic faith, strengthens the family, and demonstrate our principles of
Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

These activities are found in the Program Handbook that the Councils receive at
the beginning of the Columbian Year (June).
There are 8 Supreme Featured Programs and the 12 Domestic Church
Activities.  All Councils should
look at their Fraternal Leadership Success Planner and have entries in the
planner for their scheduled events.

The State Membership Director has initiated a program for membership called The
Fall Classic Membership Incentive.
Every Council that recruits a minimum of 5 new members (including reactivated
members) will receive $100.
For each member recruited over the first five, the Council will receive $25.
All Members must post on the Supreme Rolls between September 1st
and 30th to qualify.

As to Statewide membership California was awarded the Circle of Honor at the
Supreme Convention in August.  To
earn such a distinction, a jurisdiction has to achieve at least 100% of the
membership intake, membership net/net (membership net less deaths and
out-of-state transfers) and star council goals.
California achieved 100% of the membership intake, 125% of the membership
net/net and 113% of star council goals.
