Dear Brother Knights,

As we enter the season of Lent and prepare ourselves for Easter, I would like to thank Brothers Joe Kovach, Bill Fuhrer and Richard Scholl of Council 5300 for having St. Raphael School and Youth Group participate in the Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest. The three finalists that have been selected will be sent to the State Council Essay Committee where one will win. Good luck to all the finalists and thanks to all that have participated in the essay Contest.

I would also like to thank GK Mark Wietstock and DGK Hank Peterson of Council 1684 for running the Christmas Poster Contest this past December. The Los Padres Chapter judged those entries last month. Two were picked from Council 1684 to be sent to State. Good luck to all the finalists and thanks to all that have participated in the poster contest.

During the 2017-2018 Fraternal Year, the Supreme Council conducted a limited online membership program in the US and Canada. It has been proven so successful, that the program has been expanded and is expected to be implemented by July 2018.

What is Online Membership?

Online Membership offers a new digital experience for certain men who are not ready for council-based membership. It is meant to be a low pressure, low commitment to the Knights of Columbus. Online enrollment reaches new prospective members to be more familiar with what the Knights of Columbus does.

The Online Membership particulars:

· It takes five minutes to join.

· It is meant to supplement, not replace, traditional membership.

· Does not change the requirements for membership.

· Does not eliminate Degrees.

· Does not eliminate Dues. Online members pay $30.00.

· Online members access to Insurance Benefits, Columbian Magazine and the Online Membership Portal on the Web.

· Online Members receive Information of local council, state and national K of C events.

· Online Membership sets the stage for active membership.

Online members do not belong to local councils. They belong to state divisions. Each jurisdiction will have one state division. This state division will house all the jurisdiction’s Online Members. The California one will be determined. More details will follow as we get closer to the July target month.

Congratulations to GK Jack Turney of Council 5300 for winning the Columbian Award for Programs during his term as Grand Knight. Congratulations to DGK Hank Peterson for receiving the Star Pin Recruiter Award for Council 1684.

A reminder to all Councils that the State Convention will be held in Sacramento, CA at the DoubleTree by Hilton from May 17^th through the 19^th. The deadline for reservations is May 1^st.
